Cards for Hospitalized Kids is a charitable nonprofit based in Chicago, IL. Its founder, Jen Ribino, got the idea for starting Cards for Hospitalized Kids in 2011 after receiving an anonymous card while in the hospital. Since then, Cards for Hospitalized Kids has grown and has given over 500,000 handmade cards to hospitalized kids. They send the cards to patients in Children’s Hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses across America.
Do you enjoy making handmade cards? Why not consider making some cards for hospitalized kids. It doesn’t take any special supplies or equipment. But if you use digital or regular stamps when making your handmade cards, that’s fine too. If you have Silhouette Studio, you can create the cards inside Studio or use the Print and Cut feature. But your images for the cards don’t need to be digital. Are you a watercolor artist? Are you a paper crafter? Cards for Hospitalized Kids will accept those cards too. And many more.
These cards can be general everyday cards and holiday related cards. You can send the handmade cards anytime throughout the year. As for holidays cards, try to send them at least 2 weeks before the holiday. Of course, if you are too late, they will save the card for the next year.
When creating these handmade cards, keep in mind that an uplifting general message is better to include on the front and inside of the cards, as you don’t know which child will receive your card. Do not reference the fact that the child is ill. Of course, if the card is for a holiday, then you will want to add a holiday message as well. When signing the card, just add your first name and your state. Don’t include any personal information and they prefer to not put the cards in envelopes.
